IEA small-hydro taskforce

The Small-Scale Hydro Annex of the IEA Hydropower Implementing Agreement is compiling Good Practices for “Sustainable Small-Scale Hydropower in Local Communities.” The project aims to present examples of sustainable small-scale hydropower projects by recognizing “Good Practices” — projects that provide economic and social benefits to local communities. Data for each Good Practice will focus on project configuration, financial viability, economic spin-offs; and social and environmental benefits to local communities.

Small Hydropower World

A new web-based knowledge sharing portal on small hydropower that features best practices from different regions of the world has been launched by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Centre on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP). It contains 20 regional overviews and 149 country-level reports. UNIDO and ICSHP are collaborating with national institutions to facilitate continuous monitoring and collection of small hydropower data and are actively reaching out to potential partners to provide up-to date information. The changes will be reflected regularly on the website: http://www.smallhydroworld.org/.

A new website was launched on March 19, 2012 with a focus on disseminating information on small-scale hydropower including innovative technologies, valuable reference material and active small-hydro programs around the world.
